TEACHERS OF LUSHOTO SECONDARY, UNDERGO A TRAINING – WORKSHOP (S.B.W) FOR IMPROVING THEIR PROFESSIONALISM IN TEACHING

This is a series of ongoing seminars and facilitating training-workshops done into about twenty (20) secondary schools around at Lushoto district; where Lushoto secondary school is as one among those schools. It is the second phase scheduled seminar for this moment, conducted here at school leading to the name of "SBW - School Based Workshop" that aimed at giving skills, new knowledge and competence to teachers for being effective in teaching.



Earlier on 21st Thursday - January, 2016, there was a workshop that supervised and guided by Madam, Angela Ndoveni and Mr Nyange (who are teachers here at Lushoto secondary) thus the workshop led and coordinated by Mr. Mdabagi, Benedict (from SEKOMU - Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University).





Once on opening training-workshop, Mr Swalehe A. Msangi (senior academic master at Lushoto secondary), he wished to teachers and facilitators a prosperity training and successful participation that may lead productivity to them and their career, while encouraging them to take much consideration on such training so as to be potential, to enable them in socialization and particularly to be useful in improving teaching and learning as well as to raise the level of professionalism and academic performance here at school.





Facilitators were able to present and facilitate the training-workshop that carried three main topics particularly relevant content for teachers and their efficient conditions of work. These topics include

  • Preparation of scheme of work; structure and its components
  • Preparation of lesson plan; structure and its components
  • Stress management; concepts, common stressors and how to manage them.

One of Training -Workshop (SBW) member, Mr. G Mwasenga, volunteer to present to his fellow attendee on how to prepare an effectively lesson plan.




HOT CHAIR TIME: Two attendee members of training - workshop (SBW), Madam Herieth and Mr. Ndekirwa Yona, selected to sit in "Hot Chair" for giving a little bit summary of what learned and their fellow members to take a chance to shoot pop-up questions to them.



The presentation of these topics was that of participatory approaches that managed well by workshop' facilitators. Members of training - workshop (Teachers), enjoyed and love training intended specifically when they were involved in the entire period of training into different methods and approaches such as Questions and Answers (Q & A), Ball tossing, Think-pair-share, Gig-saw, Board presentation and Hot chair methods.


On summing-up and clear all misconceptions arose during training-workshop; Coordinator Mr. Mdabange, Benedict (From SEKOMU - Sebastian Koloa Memorial University) said that, ". . . the knowledge we get is very important, it helps us to be able in the effectiveness of our work; we are together in order to reflect the changes and enable you (attendee) to improve and elevate the academic and  teaching profession . . . "

New ideas covered and presented to teachers, were:
  • How to write assessment into scheme of work. where it recommended to state assessment tools that teacher can use to assess student rather than writing question. For instant, instead of writing " Does student know how to solve linear inequalities in one unknown?" teachers should state tools that they can use to assess, example " By using test, to check if student can solve linear inequalities in one unknown" . Other assessment tools are such as Question and Answers (Q&A), Test, Quiz, Brainstorming and so forth.
  •  Addition of one column of "Specific Objective" into scheme of work, that recommended to be after the column of 'Sub-topic' and before the column of 'Number of periods' and so far to make a sum of fourteen (14) columns of scheme of work.
The head of school, Mr. Ndekirwa, Yona, delivering the postponing speech to sum up all activities of training - workshop that held at  Lushoto secondary. He reminded all attendee members to be punctual, valued them selves, competent in their career; To attendee, " you should work hard and become a competent enough so as to be a role-modal to other teachers and to other schools."  

Members of the seminar (teachers) have gathered together in lunch at staff room, immediately after  training- workshop end up.
